Turning Point Scotland has received a generous donation from the estate of a long-time resident, Carol, whose friendly personality and love for life left a lasting legacy at Turning Point Scotland’s South Ayrshire service, where she lived for over 20 years.

Carol was a well-known and much-loved member of the community who was supported by Turning Point Scotland from 1999 until 2023. She was described by staff as a “larger-than-life character who brought joy to everyone she met.”

The donation will fund the construction of a gazebo in the centre of The Courtyard, where Carol often spent time chatting and socialising with neighbours and friends. The space will provide a sheltered area for current and future residents to meet, talk and build friendships, which reflects Carol’s sociable nature.

To honour Carol’s memory, the service hosted an afternoon tea, which was one of Carol’s favourite pastimes, to bring friends and staff together to reflect on her life and the positive impact Carol had on those around her. Her estate’s trustees, Margaret and Drew, also attended to thank the service for their support of Carol and share their own memories of their time spent with her.

The new gazebo will play an important role for those who have moved into The Courtyard over recent months. It will provide a welcoming and inclusive space to connect with others, build friendships and build a sense of belonging in their new community.
