Turning Point Scotland is one of the biggest providers of services to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across Scotland. Our Homelessness and Prevention services provide support to two groups of people: those experiencing homelessness and individuals at risk of homelessness.
In many cases homelessness is preventable. Where it can’t be prevented, it should be rare, brief and non-recurring. It is important to address the stigma associated with the term homelessness as it may prevent people seeking support from services.
A range of care led and housing lead models of support should be available to prevent, or support someone to resolve their homelessness as well as address their health and social care needs.
We recognise that we are not going to end homelessness by focusing on service delivery along. We believe that whatever door someone arrives at for support, it’s the right door (No Wrong Door). When they seek support, they are met with coordinated support from the system (Whole System Approach). We are developing our work to include the delivery of a Whole System Approach, coordinating wider systems, services and those who interact with people who are being supported or may need support in the future.
We are active members of the European Federation of National Organisations with the Homeless (FEANTSA) and founding members of the Housing First Europe Hub.
