Turning Point Scotland North Ayrshire Prevention, Early intervention and Recovery (PEAR) Service hosted a visit from Glasgow Clan Ice Hockey at Ardeer Community Centre this week.

Cody Sol, Bryce Reddick and Dyson Stevenson came along to speak to staff and people supported by PEAR and Turnaround service about setting goals, resilience, positive mental health and the importance to surround yourself with good people. Each member shared their own experience with coming in and out of unfamiliar situations, how they avoid dark thoughts, being able to put yourself out there and creating structure.

Dyson Stevenson emphasised “Surround yourself with good people and good things happen.”

The players explained the importance of creating a routine and schedule that you can hold yourself accountable for and how that can push individuals to move forward. There was emphasis on the importance of talking about your mood and struggles.

The talk finished with a discussion on how ice hockey and sport in general can help with health and wellbeing.

Cody, Bryce and Dyson were extremely open and honest during the question and answer session which covered all areas from career before, during and after hockey as well as personal experiences of recovery, healing and using your own experiences to help others and give back.

Following the discussion, the players set the hall up with goals and invited all staff and the people we support to participate in a game of soft ball hockey.

PEAR Service Manager Gary Douglas said, “It was a privilege to have Glasgow Clan come to us. The people that attended thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and will gain so many benefits from listening to the players sharing their experience and how sport and exercise can improve well-being.

Big thanks to the 3 players who took their time out of a very busy schedule to talk with some of the team and the people we are supporting. The ball hockey was amazing fun.”

Glasgow Clan have invited people who use our PEAR and Turnaround services and staff along to Glasgow Clan Vs Cardiff Devils in April. All staff at Turning Point Scotland will be cheering Glasgow Clan on and will continue to support them next season.

Glasgow Clan take great pride in the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact on their community. Find out more about an in the Community here.
